Pipiwai Trail

Amazing hiking trail off the road to Hana, considered one of Maui's best hikes to do.

  • 3-5 Hours depending on the pace of the hike

  • Beautiful Banyan Tree while hiking

  • Couple of waterfalls on the way

    • Makahiku Falls

    • Waimoku Falls

    • If there has been a lot of rain there can be random waterfalls

  • 3 awesome bamboo forest sections throughout the hike

Driving in Maui

Driving in Maui was pretty easy with not much traffic, mostly 2 lanes around the whole island.

  • Driving the road to Hana a must, try to rent a convertible for this drive

  • Most hotels charge a parking fee

Our Maui Itinerary

We spent 5 days in Maui. Since this was the last island of our Hawaiian trip we decided to spend a little more time relaxing. Maui is also a quieter island when compared to Oahu. In our 5 days on Maui we wished we had more time to cover a few more excursions. We wished we attended another Luau, outrigger canoe, and some more hikes.

Pipiwai Trail

Haleakala Crater Sunrise & Hike

  • Sunrise:

    • Wake up at least 3 hours before sunrise, check with your hotel reception on the recommendation on time to leave for the crater

    • Driving to the top requires driving in the dark, but very manageable turns if you take your time

    • Entrance fee of around $10 dollars per car

  • Sliding Sands Trail:

    • Around 3-4 hours

    • 2,800 feet descent
